Can it be connected?, should it be connected?, why or why not?

I'm not sure what you mean? In what application are your referring to it being connected and how?

In media and other means of telecommunication it's already been done and for quite awhile. Cablevision and several other companies use a Copper/Fiber hybrid system to deliver your stations to your home. The signal is carried to the general vicinity of a neighborhood by fiber wires and then converted by a fiber optic node to a signal that's capable of being carried by the copper wires. The copper wires then carry the signal from the node to your home. There are benefits and drawbacks, one of the leading drawbacks to a hybrid system is that the copper wire can't carry as much info as fiber can another is that copper wire signal needs to be boosted over distance more often than fiber so there's a higher noise floor. There advantages are that copper is cheaper to maintain, easier to work with and in most cases more durable.

These are just some of the examples and very simplified ones at that of the benefits and disadvantages of each system and honestly the choice in which to use really comes down to the money one has available and the application. So a general definitive answer can't be given in my opinion.

Im trying to retro fit a newer stereo and climate controls from a newer model of my car to, well my car but my car is copper and the newer unit is fiber optic will this cause problems for me?

You'll have to search to see if someone makes a converter for your vehicle.

So all I need is a compatible wiring hatness?

I started on a car forum but they werent much help

If you look through crutchfield you might find something as I said they have Factory Integration Systems for stereos for backwards compatibility issues, allowing you to integrate the more technologically advanced radios into older vehicles. You just have to see if they have one for your vehicle. Honestly if you would've put all the info. up from the beginning(the application, car company, model, year) I would've looked for you and given you a direct link in my first post.
