Hey guys, sick of ick so i'm setting up two 20L QT tanks to copper treat my remaining fish. I am using seachem's cupramine, it says to dose based on 2 weeks but I was under the impression I need to treat the fish for 6 weeks and leave my display tank fallow for 8 weeks. Any advice on the process would be greatly appreciated. I have PVC hiding spots for both tanks along with air pumps/powerheads for oxygen, along with heaters. Any input is greatly appreciated it has been surprisingly difficult to find information on the process online.

Sounds about right - the cooper will knock the Ick off the fish and they'll die with no host to feed on - their eggs will hatch and the cooper will kill off the babies stopping the cycle, takes like 2-3 weeks. But the cooper stays in the water even when dosing stops. The main tank will have the larva hatch and drop into the substrate were they'll live for a few weeks and mature. When they do mature there will be no host to feed on and they will die - takes 8-9 weeks just to be sure.

Best of luck - was the worst 9 weeks I've ever had to deal with fish wise and still lost half my stock.

Yeah man, Ich is a pian in the ass. I have lost a few fish in the QT tank before. Even at 8-9 weeks you cant be 100% sure that all the larvae is gone.

Isn't there a shrimp or something that eats ich? I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was an invert out there that would keep the ich off the fish or something? I don't know, could be wrong...But if there is, and assuming you're not treating the DT with copper, would one of said critters help to clean the sand bed? Just a thought....

got the fish moved tonight, scared to start dosing copper. uhg.

I know 9 weeks is the "be safe" date but I also read a lot of people doing a month or 6 weeks etc. what are y'alls thoughts about that? I plan to do 10 gallon weekly water changes to the display tank even though there are no fish in it, would this cut down on the amount of time I need to go fallow because I'm thinning the icky little bastards out?

well dosed copper tonight, no fish keeled over instantly so i guess i didnt mess up too bad lol. supposed to re-dose in 48 hours and will do a water change a couple days after that. any tips on keeping ph where its supposed to be are appreciated
