ok calling all shark heads, i work in a lfs, but have no experience with sharks, recently we got a bamboo shark egg (brownband) after what seems like ages it hatched 3 days ago, anyway i fallen in love with sharks, brown bandeds get to big for my budget and home atm, but is it true that coral cats only get like 2ft? because my snowflake moray is getting a bit big for his 40gal, and im looking at 4ftx2ftx2.5ft tank any way would that be suitable for a coral cat and will he be fine wit my moray (18 inches) or am i better off getting tangs/groupers/wrasse and just doing fish only, im pretty certain im adding a dwarf fuzzy and coral catfish (the venomous one)...if i cant get the shark ....so please advise as to the best route thanks kindly, oh and as far as our baby bamboo goes when we put him on sale in a month whats tank specs and care should i advise prospective buyers? thanks again

just worked out spec on tank, with added volume of sump gonna be 112 gallons, 100cm(L)x69cm(H)x55cm(D) as far a filtration goes l/r and foam an cabron in sump plus big sump skimmer with a higher rating than tank size if poss to help deal with larger messy fish sound good? or not big enough?

Hmmm ... A 4ft x 2ft x 2.5 ft(about 150 gallon) tank will not work for a Coral Catshark(Atelomycterus marmoratus) for life.

To keep a Coral Catshark for life - you will need a tank that is at least 6'L x 2.5-3' W x 2'T (roughly 225-270 gallons). And that's Bare Minimum - IMO.

Personally I also don't like the idea of keeping Lions(even Dwarfs) with sharks. I've heard too many horror stories of either the shark or the lion ending up D E A D.

With sharks - you have to be careful on selecting tank mates.

ok, the tank actually works out at 213 gallons i fink including the sump, but i guess this means im better going for lion, catfish, tangs etc other medium/large fish and forget about the catshark till i have room to sink a fibreglass pond the right size into my cellar haha

Generally rule of thumb - if the tank is too small to keep a Coral catshark in for Life - then it's also too small to keep a bamboo shark in for life.

That said - a 4'L x 2'W x 2.5'T would make for an ok "pupping" tank to keep a bamboo pup in for about 12-16 months. But depending on the species - you will need a pond/tank that is at least 300-500 gallons tp kept it for life.

what type of coral catshark are you talking about because theres some that can be kept in 90 gallons but i wold do 150 even though but just statting that there are some that stay small like the marble catshark can like in a 70 gallon, the coral catshark Atelomyctus marmoratus can live in a 110 gallon. those are a couple u can keep in smaller aquarium

There is no way you can keep them in a tank that small. As has already been said something more like 300g is more appropriate.

everything i read on them says that and plus they dont swim a hole lot and thus can live in small tank but i wouldnt do anything less than a 150 my self
