Truvu sells "coral flats" which are very economical while offering very big floor space for whatever you house in it.

I was thinking of setting up a 48x48x12 for my baby fly river turtle.

Do you think that'd be a good idea? It seems very logical for me, since it's deep enough for full submersion and it's certainly very very spacious!

Tell me what you think, or if you have experience with this setup.

i think it's a fabulous idea. not too deep so's the hatchling can breathe easy.
only thing i can think of is - dead spots wouldnt be a problem in a coral tank, but with much less water circulation in a tank with such a large footprint, you might get quite a few deadspots where detritus is gonna build up. depends on your decor/maint. not a huge issue.

Yeah, this is the best find ever! lol

The picture I think shows a 96x48x16, so it looks huge.

I just have to decide wether a canister or wet-dry would be more optimal for this setup.

With turts, I like to recommend a wet/dry filter. This is due to the amount and size of the waste they produce and the mess they can make of food items. It's a ton easier to pull and rinse off a pre-filter pad from the top of a w/d drip plate than it is to strip down and clean a canister filter.

Cool tanks but too rich for my blood.
Keep in mind turtles can easily make an acrylic tank look like a 14 year old sneeze guard at the local salad bar. That is to say, they will scratch it.:)
