Hi everyone. I just set up a saltwater tank, and I want buy some coral fragments. My question is how fast to they grow. I know it has a lot to to on your lighting and set up, and the type pf corals, but within ayear will I get a lot of growth if I buy some frags? I have a 90 gal. with about 150LBS of liverock with t-5 lighting and 4 powerheads on a wavemaker. I know it also depends on the type of corals. Can you reccamend fast growing corals?? I was just wondering how many fragments to buy 20-30 ? Please help. Sorry about all my questions but Im new to saltwater.

Your lighting, rocks & current sound fine. Start out buying 1-3 at a time & see how they do. What are you looking for--SPS, LPS, softies? You must be careful with placement, as many corals will do warfare on each other. Also, what are the parameters? With SPS, you need to watch the Ca, Alk & Mag closely & add suppliments daily.

I'd probably start out with softies and then go to lps and or sps. It will give you some practice with stability you'll get great growth as well. In general they are much easier to tend to.

softies: kenya tree, colt, zoos, mushrooms.
LPS: welsophyllia, trumpet, frogspawn
SPS: montipora digitata, montipora capricornis.

these all look great and grow fairly quickly.
