The main substrate in my tank is just fine sand but i have a pondplanting basket of coral gravel in the tank to buffer the ph. I was wondering sinse the rays keep blowing it out the basket given that it would be mixd with loads of regular fine sand would the rays be ok on it? Just they are growing and the extra foot squar would be uselfull.

cheers Angus

Why are you trying to change the PH? As long as the PH stays consistant rays are pretty tolerant to a fairly broad range of PH.

He may have soft water and needs the extra buffering so his tank doesn't crash. Could you not hang the basket close to the top of your tank. The coral may be too sharp.

Yeh the water comes out my tap barley at 6.0 and drops dangerously low even with 25% water changes everyotherday, ive tried powders but they do sweet fa to my water and cost loads, ive got 10 kg of coral gravel in at the moment and it seems to have little effect. No room in the sump its packed full of bio media. Another issue with my ph is that it reduced the efficiency of my filters loads so im forever worrying about nitrites and ph crashes lol
