Milky Way Galaxy,
Got some more live rock for my 15g and some zenya hitched a ride and I'm going to add more coral in soon to but wasn't expecting on getting some so early anyway in the pictures you can see there really small and thin is this because they need to be fed? I also got a reef starter kit. I did a water change last night (4gallons). When I put the iodide, strontium & molybdenum, liquid calcium and feed the zenya should I turn off my Skimmer? I haven't added it all yet, the Skimmer is rated for a 60g. Stock is one clown fish and one fancy cardinal. I read cardinals like groups so I was thinking about buying 2-3 more by adding them at diffrent times would they fish the loner in the tank? Also my sand has some left over chunks of I don't know what seems like thick algea that my siphon can't get what clean up crew should I get to help. Thanks guys.

That's not Xenia, that's Aiptasia; you need to pull that rock and remove all of them. You're already pretty close to being overstocked if you're not already overstocked, so don't add any more fishes. As for the cleaner crew, go with dwarf blue leg hermits and a variety of snails; LiveAquaria.com has a pretty sweet deal on the "Build Your Own Reef Cleaner Package" including free shipping.

So can I just leave the clown and remove the cardinal? What about the sand problem? But I thought it was okay to have 2fish for a 15g? With a bit of over filtration ? Also what corals should I add? Besides just mushrooms? And my coral feeding question? And what's wrong with aiptasia? Sorry for all the questions I never have these problems with my bigger salt tanks.

You don't need to pull the rock with the aiptasia anems on it. There are treatment for them if you chose to remove them that do not require you to remove the rock from the tank. They are not as bad as people make them out to be. I would not add anymore fish to the tank for a while. 15g is pretty small for a saltwater tank and can be easily overloaded. How long has the tank been running? the hair algae on the rocks tells me your tank is still cycling. Saltwater takes longer to cycle than fresh so just leave your tank as it is now until it finishes the cycle. That protein skimmer will help your tank so much more than you think it will. What kind of lights are you running on that tank?

Is the aiptasia bad? Long term would it hurt some corals I decide to add later? I won't add any more fish then period don't want to risk it. Tanks been running for about 5months. The light am using is called a 50/50 coral life bulb. The hair algae has been on there for Awhile I'm thinking about getting a slug to clean it up. And by stopping the skimmer I ment (when I get coral) do I turn it off (for how long?) when I feed the coral and the coral supplements? I did a water test about 2weeks ago should I do another one and tell you the parameters right now? Everything was fine last time i checked.

Aipatasia is an aggressive anemone that reproduces extermely fast and has a real powerful sting - strong enuff to kill corals. I'd get that algae under control prior to adding corals - algae can sufficant corals. Just because you have algae doesn't mean your tanks not cycling. What are your Alk,Cal,Mag, and Iodine readings? I'd want to know before I dosed anything as too much of this stuff is worse than not enuff. It's pretty hard to test for heavy metals they usually come into the tank via water changes and saltmixes. They are trace elements, meaning there overall ratio to water is next to nothing - unmeasurable. So dosing molybdenum + strontium in a tank with no stoney corals is a complete waste of time and money. This use of additional heavy metal dosing is more a visual call - ppl with a tankfull of stoneys with ideal water conditions yet corals are slow to grow and dull.

Okay I'll remove them ASAP when I get home. What test kit can I get to measure my alk , cal , and mag readings? I won't does molybdenum and strontium then since I have no interest in keeping Stoney corals. So heres a plan tell me if its acceptable:first take care of the algae with some cleaners. Do my water changes like I always do.(every week 20%)Wait 2weeks and then see how the tank is. If all is good, add some soft coral.

I'll do a water test also when I get home.
