Really dont know. Never looked into it. It was sold as a pagoda cup coral. But if that was a correct ID by this dude it was the first time ever, because he used to pay me when I was 16 to walk around his store and correct his ID's... Really trashy store, but it was the last place in town that had the metal halides to keep real corals. (petco cant even keep the mushroom colonies it gets in alive... :irked:) Oh well. So if anyone has some idea of what this is let me know.

i have seen them sold as montipora. I think its just a type of montipora. I had a red and it didnt grow very well, but under halides they should fair very well. They are extremely easy to frag as well.

looks like pagoda to me... how big is the peice.. so i can get an idea of the size of the polyps... could very well be a monti cap

That piece is probably about 5" in diameter. Its grown about 1 1/2" since I got it. Its directly under one of my halides, on the top of the rockwork. I think its a pagoda cup. No fleshy polyps are visible... Just the bumps. (Im sure that if I looked close enough I might see something, but just to the casual observer, no.)

I would love to have another coral to frag...but breaking this large beautiful head would break my heart...so idk.

Tubestrea Here's mine:

Should color up nice, under the right lighting.

This coral is still a mystery to me.

Definitely NOT a pagoda cup.

Definitely NOT a montipora.

Never really seen anything like it.

Tubestrea is the closest thing, but it never colored up in great conditions, and it never really had the right growth pattern.

Oh well it was moved out with the rest of the 75g tank I sold awhile ago.

You don't think it looks like my pic?

I do...minus the color.

I have seen what tubestrea looks like...especially ones like yours...this just doesnt feel the same or look the same different growth pattern, thicker, but like I said, if it was anything, it would be that.
