I was thinking of adding a SMALL peice of coral to my freshwater 180...

is this a good/bad idea? what would happen to my water? anybody know?

thanks!

it will raise the pH, depending on what kind it is, it may disinagrate. We added some to our cichlid tank, in the filter (hanging type)

In therory it could raise your ph, harness and alkilinity.

Most likley a small piece in a 180 will do nothing, too small to have a measurable affect.

YOu do mean a dead coral skeleton don't you? Not a live coral, right?

yes, i do mean a piece of dead coral.

thanks for da input, i probably wont put it in now. :)

I put a starfish skeleton in my fahaka tank, and the puffer just tored it up into granules. Didn't eat it though.

Like seashell it will slowly weaken and slightly raise your ph, unless you are keeping soft, acid water then regular partial water changes should keep it from being a problem as long as it is a fairly small piece in such a large tank. I wouldn't do it but I don't like the looks of coral in fresh water tanks.
