How do you safely remove a coral from the base it comes with? I ask because I've seen some corals that come with live rock as a base and I have seen them with what appears to be cement bases. If a coral is removed from the base will it die?

Its a "candy cane" coral. Supposed to be very hardy...but it has a round cement base it's attached to. When we tried to take it off, the coral came apart from the base and left a very thin layer of itself on the base...hope that makes sense. Will it be ok? Or should I take it back?

here is a picture of a large one...the one I have is very small and spread out looking

Okay I just fragged my caulastrea as well, try to stay as far away from the fleshy part of the coral as possible...what part is left on the base?! Can you take a pic

Well, it was attached with some pink substance that was hard. Only a very thin layer was left stuck to the cement piece- I'm talking millimeters here.

Do I need to use something to re-attach him to a piece of live rock, or just set him on it?
