Hey guys i know this might sound a little silly to you guys but is is just me or are frags, and such very expensive for very small amounts? i was wondering if anyone had advise on how to get several diffrent types for a good price. when i was purchasing my live rock i tried to buy pieces that already had things going but that too got expensive. does any one know a cheaper place or am i destin to spend a fortune?

There maybe a local saltwater forum that you could pick up some frags from in your area. We have one in dallas and there are always frags for sale and for free on there. I don't know where you are buying but there are plenty of online retailers that have reasonable prices. What kind of frags are you buying?

Troy

ps You will spend a fortune.

If your talking about frags from other ppls tanks then as long as they are cheaper then wild stuff just pulled out of the ocean then its fair enough. Because of the hardiness of fragged corals it could be argued they should be worth more.
If you mean wild corals then i think as much as it sucks they are cheap enough as it is. If they where like $2 each then i doubt there would be much of the worlds reefs left by now.

Buy a couple of Frags, let them grow, frag them your self, and then trade them for some other frags!!! May take a year or so to get a full variety in your tank but it will be cheap!

Yeah, coral tanks don't happen over night. It will take a year to get a 'good looking' reef growing. Frags are spendy, but well worth it with time.

Here is a pic of my SPS reef it is a older pic but gives you an Idea. This pic iswhen the tank was 6 months old. I have taken all the live rock out to "cook it" and add a cls spray bar and live rock raisers to it when I put it back together. I put all the corals on egg crate stands in the tank. I will upgrade my blog with new picks later. Enjoy and good luck. You will love reef keeping. Also remember "Nothing Happens Fast in a Reef"!!!

my store sells frags for 12.99-24.99 sizes go to price accordingly and the 12.99 pieces are 2-4 polyps (soft) and one stag (sps) and we also have more rare pieces from out show tanks that go for about 50.....

frags can be cheap but if its nore expensive then investigate where it came from and what its origins are... most expensive pieces come from a rare coral or a frag of it... or that frag is just uncommon overall... but know your corals and its price range first

Pricing really varies. I have paid 100.00 for a 1/2" Purple Monster SPS. It depends on how rare and colorful it is. You will find that nice SPS and ZOO's are going to cost way more than the dull colored ones. I would advise a local reef club they will usually give the new people frags for free.
