coral

Everyone seems so confused I'm getting confused just reading this. Live rock? as in saltwater? Anyways crushed coral is fine due to the increase in pH. I'm sure limestone has the same effect, but both wont increase the pH by much.

You can use crush coral, and ocean rock yes.

It is good to use as it buffers your water. A high KH and GH makes for a stable PH.

You cannot use actually living rock and corals though.

Yes there are a few sponges and hard coral species out in the lakes but its not possible to get them to survive in an african cichlid tank in the home aquaria.

I have crushed coral as a substrate in my African tank.Live rock that is cleaned and scrubbed can be used but it would be costly. Some stores use fake corals in their tanks that house Africans and it seems like a way to pass them off as a cheaper, easier alternative to saltwater fish.
