Coralife Turbotwist UV sterilizer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am firm believer that UV's should not be used unless absolutly neccesary in a marine system The only times i would ever use one is in times of an algal bloom or to aid in the removal of Ich when its in the free swimming stage. These devices cannot distinguish between good or bad bacteria, so will kill both types as it passes through.

This debate of using a UV in the marine aquarium is one of them debates which will never cease...everyone has their own personal opinion...but, each persons opinions opinion should not be argued or dismissed...

thank you i deff want to learn more b4 i get one because in the mid of setting up my 125 everyones telling me to get a uv sterilizer and i didnt no if u kept it on all the time or only when algae appears i was confused but if anyone else wants to throw somethin in i would apreciate it

I can't remember if I've ordered from hellolights before or not...I don't feel any reason why I would be hesitant to though, I've never heard anything bad about them.

I have the 18w Turbo twist running on my pond, purely for green water control. I don't know why you'd want one in a marine tank - you have all sorts of planktonic organisms, as well as pods, etc that provide food and other services to the system - a UV sterilizer will kill all of these. Proper QT procedure is enough for disease prevention IMO.

hmm..ive bin wonderin y everyone is telling me to get one the 180 at my lfs has one and the water is crystal clear and has alot of rare fish in it

If you keep fish they are great for a marine tank, if you are trying to set up a reef tank there are reasons not to have one depending on what you are trying to do.
