hey guys, was wondering if any of you had experiece with breeding cordylus, specifically joneseii or tropidosternum. im thinking about gettin a couple but want to breed them.cooling needed? also, any hints on sexing them? all i can find is males have preanal bulges?

thanks in advance, and if you have any post some pics of their set ups!

I don't know much about these guys but aren't most members of this genus hard to breed in captivity? I know they have small litters and they take a while to mature.

i have a jonesii hes pretty cool i actually saw one at my lfs today aswell the thought of breeding them crossed my mind aswelli can put up pics tomarrow

as for breeding i dont think they need cooling but dont quote me also ithey are live bearers which is cool.... if i find anything else out ill post it up

they also like to be housed in little herds from what ive read

Never had them but really neat and hardy species;)In my opinion they are not breed often because most people dont try hard enough to reserch on the original lizard´s habitat and temperature and moist changes. Its a case of thinking outside the terrarium. As a general hits I would say you should give your lizards the best condicions possible including the biggest possible cage, lots of deco with the original habitat on mind, a very diverse diet including both animal and vegetable parts like raised and wild bugs such as crickets, grasshopers, spineless caterpilarls, roaches, etc, as well as sweet fruit, wild flowers like dandilions, etc. As for the climate part you should reserch on weater web sites as well as on papers about thouse species the maximum and lowest temps, how is the rain true out the year, etc, on the animals range. Try also to find specific works that had been done about thouse animals biology to know what they eat in the wild, when they mate, were they fell confortable, etc. Thouse are the steps to acomplishing your goal:D Good luck

pics as promised

i think its a really big asperagous fern... or thats what my mom bought it as, idk but i like how it looks in there

Already see some stuff you need to change;) First of i think that tank is too small specialy if your considering breeding. You need a bigger wider tank in wich your going to put several more animals(I think you can put several males together but be shure to figure that out) with several basking and hidding places. More deco in the form of rocks ,logs ,etc. Also that botom is defenetly to weet. It wont hurt to replace some whit dry material. How do you keep it warm during the nigth?
Also that is a bad plant choice. Thouse are Asparagus sp wich can be irritating and are sligthly toxic. Also that red plant I think is a red acer wich is also toxic for birds and very likely reptiles. Keep both as house plants and replace them by a few safe ones I will tell you. Its very important because Cordylus are omnivorus and will eat a small amount of plant material. Good plants for such terrarium include Sanseveria sp, smood leaf yuca, Cordyline sp and Dracaena sp wich is already a hand full. Thouse are comonly avaible house plants(google the names for images) but you must whait for at least a copple of mouths before putting any resently buyed plant into the terrarium to let the rest of pesticides, leaf shiner and fertilizers that it was 100% shure exposed to dilute or became inactive, so it wont hurt your lizards:D
