I have a 180, standard size of 72 24 24. It has 1 corner overflow as seen in picture 1. The overflow has 1 inch hole drilled on the bottom of it. I was thinking of doing a durso style overflow however i am a bit paranoid about it getting jammed for some reason (although there should not be any reason for it).

So a few questions. Is 1 overflow enough? I know people are using 2 corner overflows and / or bean animal these days but this tank is somewhat old.

Is there a way to make it a bit safer in case "some thing" happens and it gets stuck? as you could see, there wasnt much room on the bottom of the overflow to drill another hole.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

That overflow should be fine we only have 1 corner overflow in our 230g and it is a well stocked tank. As for getting blocked get some thick glass to make fram at the bottom of the overflow about inch and a half high then put that white plastic egg grate material over it. Then dump in bip balls and build the same thing about 2 to 3 inches from the top. Then you can put floss in there as a pre filter but leave a 2 inch whole in floss in it gets to dirty that way water will go over and down overflow. This system works great in our tank hope this helps.

I have 2 125g tanks that each only have 1 overflow with a durso style pipe. Works just fine.
