Hey All,

I have an idea for building a 700g plywood corner tank. It seems like it'd be a great tank, but I've never had a corner tank this large. I'm looking for feedback on any reasons this might not be a good tank, before I commit to it.

The build itself is not my worry, as I've built tanks larger than this before, and I'm fairly proficient in woodworking, glass installs, etc. Rather, I'm wondering what could I be missing about the tank idea itself that could later make me regret building this thing.

For example, is it going to be too deep and fish near the back will look hazy? Or will water circulation be a challenge with a corner tank? etc.

The stocking will be my 3" Fire Eel, 5-6 Datnoids, 15 Denison barbs, 8 Silver Dollars, and maybe 5-6 Bala Sharks. Filtration will be a couple FX6s to start with but later move to a 120g sump. The glass viewing panel will span almost all of the front side.

Footprint dimensions below. Height will be ~31". Thank you!

Hey R Revan ,
The only thing I see that may be a PITA is the maintenance on a tank that is over 6' wide and tucked into a corner. It is a nice design regardless, but a rectangle tank seems like it would be much easier to deal with. What about a 10'x4'x3', that would make for a nice size tank (not sure how many gallons that is though). Just my 2 cents. GL

I agree. Visibility should be fine but cleaning is gonna be a pain.
I like the idea of a corner tank like that though.

I think it would be spectacular! I'm sure that the size would make some aspects of maintenance a bit awkward...but, really, any large tank has this issue to some extent.

I've toyed with a DIY tank like this for years, but just don't feel comfortable enough with my wood-working skills to be completely confident in making perfect 45-degree corners as strong and perfect as these would need to be. If you know you can do that part of the job, I say go for it. Can't wait to see a build thread. Corner details, please! :)
