Hi this is my first post on here .... iv been looking at getting a motoro pup for my 6x2x2 it currently has discus in it and I have seen motoro and discus in displays before so I'm after advice on how to keep these guys such as feeding, maintenance and tank mates I have researched these guys on the Internet but more info about these guys is better.

Is your plan to keep the discus and add a motoro? I had discus when I first got into rays years ago and the motoro was good at picking them off. If the Ray is a pup and the discus full grown then it should work for awhile. With your tank only 2' wide though you may want to consider a smaller Ray like a hystrix or a male marble.

The discus are about 5" discs and I was looking st those but we are setting up a 10x4x5ft tank at work which will have rays in so I would be moving it to that when the time comes so I know it's going to a good home I'll look at the other 2 species as well it's more about the hardier species for me as iv never kept rays before

Most captive bred rays are pretty hardy. If you can keep discus you should do fine with rays.

That's good to know as my discus are doing great ... what price do hystrix and what's the Latin for the marbled you was referring to

I currently keep discus with a single ray. Some rays Ardmore aggressive than others. Had a particular male that haresses the discus at night. Have to accept that your discus May get injured, loss of scales mostly. Worst case was a very ulcerated eye. Unfortunately the discus eventually lost that eye 2 weeks after the injury. I secured a large piece of drift wood with 100pound fishig line to make the discus more secure without removing floor space for the Ray

Hystrix are usually a couple hundred. There's someone on Mfk that breeds them I believe he's located in Maine.

I was referring to marble motoros. Lots of breeders on Mfk.

Unfortunatly the species names ain't like cichlids and so on they haven't been up dated in years and there's meny verients of species inside the Latin name

Motoro for example have meny verients just of the top on my head
Peruvian triple spot
Super spot ( trip spot with spotting in the base colour )
columbian marble motoro
Venizulan marble motoro
Mini marble motoro ( smaller bloodline of marble motoro )

And am sure there's more the maximum size veries from region and type

I'd stick with a marble, much prettier than regular motoros but with all the personality and ease of care.

In hindsight I probably will not keep discus with rays anymore. Pretty hard to make sure every discus eats well. Also if you rays like to eat beef heart, it'll get expensive real fast. Am putting my discus on small discus pellets now which my rays ignore, but they grow better on the beef heart
