I woke up this morning to find my favorite cory dead. I netted him out and had a look at him sitting on my hand. I then noticed a gaping hole in his belly. He was in fact hollow.

I can confirm that he has only been dead for around 8 hours. Can anyone explain why he's hollow? Disease?

RIP little one.:(

Possibly another fish in your tank got to him after he died

White cloud minnows, sword tail molly, other corys? But how would they be able to eat through the armor plating on the underside of the cory?

There's no armour plating underneath, their stomachs are soft. That'd be my guess, too. The other fish got to him after he died.

The large, white, flat, "skid plate" looking thing is soft? News to me. I figured since there on the bottom all the time it'd be hard. You guys are probably right.

Oh well. No mystery to it at all then. ;)

Same happened to me with my upside down cat my girlfriend just got attached to that day by naming him Andy. Post mortom injury. She noticed he was dead but would not net him so when I got home I did and noticed the hole and she said it wasn't there when she saw him.
