anyone know how much salinity a cory catfish can safely handle? i have been aclamating my two corys for months now and im up to 1.005. thanks

I used some salt in my 50g, c. aeneus, panda and adolfi. But what I've been reading they are very sensitive to salt. Try to not use it in their tank.

Corys are very sensitive to salt, personally i would never risk any in a tank with them. What's your reason for salt in the tank anyways???

I added some salt to my Cory tank because they kept getting fin rot. This was after I moved them from a 10g to a 20g long.

I think certain species of cories are a lot hardier to salt, a certain big box pet store keeps salt in all of their tanks and they have cories all the time. I think softwater fish in general will be less tolerant of salt, but in my experience most common cories are not nearly as sensitive to salt as many make them out to be.

That being said they are softwater fish and the cause of their fin rot is not a lack of salt, something else is stressing them (or they were injured by the net or something like that) and if you do not remove this stressor they will keep getting it. Do you realize that at 1.005 you are at a brackish level of salinity?

It's actually kind of impressive they are alive. Good work. Now get them back into fresh before their internal organs dehydrate and they die.

Any other possible sources of fin rot? Any ammonia or nitrItes? Is your water hard? Your location just says USA, so I can't guess whether your tap water would be hard or soft...

I have 2 emeralds, 1 Green and 2 Peppered... I have yet to have a problem with salt and my Corys... They actually seem to like the salt as there colors look better when I use salt compared to when I don't use salt

I know this is an older thread, but I have used salt in my tanks with Corys and it has not caused any issues. They're great fish albeit small, they have huge personalities.
