Hello,

During the catfish convention I got some cory catfish and I don't know what substrate to use. I got 1 male Scleromystax barbarous, 3 orange laser [Corydoras schultzei], 3 black corys [Corydoras schultzei], 6 gold panda corys [Corydoras panda], and 10 brochis cory catfish. What substrate should I use for these.

[If I need a separate tank for the Scleromystax barbarous that is fine]

Setup

10 gallon:
1 male Scleromystax barbarous and 10 brochis cory catfish.

10 gallon:
3 orange laser [Corydoras schultzei] and 3 black corys [Corydoras schultzei]

10 gallon:
6 gold panda corys [Corydoras panda]

Any type of smooth sand otherwise they hurt their barbels. 10 brochis and a sclero in a 10G isn't going to last to long either.

I know. Yesterday I set up a temporary tank.

Today, at a pet store the employee told me to use large gravel or the corys will eat the sand. I am glad I checked first.

Just your typical LFS people trying to make money. Gravel will actually damage their barbels down to stubs. They sift through the sand and shoot it out their gills while picking out any food in it.
