My corydora just lost an eye. I had him in a breeder cage with a red-tailed sand loach and a yoyo loach since yesterday because I plan to take them all to the LFS to trade for other fish, but just a couple of minutes ago, I look in and not only has my red-tailed sand loach hopped over the edge of the cage, but left his mark on my beloved corydora. This corydora, my lone warrior has stuck it out with me for about a year and he was my first real fish that I ever kept . He saw his way through three different tank settings from my 10 to my 40 and now that my loach has done this to him, I feel like rippin' it's guts out! :FIREdevil My corydora seems really dazed, not dead, as he's still breathing and moves slightly, but he's so still that I put my hand in to touch him and he didn't even flinch. The eyeball is shriveled and just hanging by a tissue, and it's really disgusting :barf: . I still plan to try and give him to the LFS (because there's not much I can do for him and he'd just be picked on now by the larger cichlids). But now that I think of it, I do have a 10 gallon tank I've been prepping for some killifish or tetras to breed. If I give him to the LFS, they'll probably just toss him in with other corydoras, do you think they would gang up on him, or do you think they would protect him and let him join their "pack"? I feel so bad for putting him in with the loach in such a confined area, and all I want to do for him is what's best for him, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I'd suggest keeping him. He'll be better off in your hands than ending up abused in petstores. Keep with daily water changes and dissolve a teaspoon per gallon of salt in its tank to prevent infections until the wound heals completely.

Cories will not know how to defend. They're oblivious to anything in general.

I totally agree with Lupin.

My LFS has a one eyed cory that its had with its discus for several years and its fat and seems to be happy as can be. So if it pulls through and heals up, it can still make a good little fish.

sad news you guys, i found him this morning stiff as a rock. I think the trauma just got to him. :( This was the first fish I've lost that I've actually cared about, which makes this loss a harder one. Good news is that I caught the loach and the chinese algae eater that escaped two days earlier. I'm deciding whether I should go Old Testament on their butts ("and eye for an eye") or New Testament (forgive and be forgiven). I'm still pretty pissed at them. :angryfire :FIREdevil :swear:
