Hi people

Tank is a 55 gal.
Inhabitants are 6 Corydoras sterbai (1in), 6 Brochis splendens (1.5in) and a Sajica pair (male 2.5in female 2in)
Filtration is an Eheim 2327, a HOB that came with the 55 and a Fluval 2 internal submerged filter.
I’m feeding Prima pellets, mysis shrimp and chopped up earthworms.
Water is crispy (almost).

The Sajica pair have lots of available territories (at least 3) that they can choose from.
The pair swim together a lot, I’ve seen no courting per se. His colours are nice and hers are even better.
(On a side note, I have a Kodak easyshare digital camera – if anyone can tell me how to take the best pictures of my fish with it, or direct me to a thread that tells me how to get the most out of the camera, that would be great.)

So, will the corys upset the breeding of the Sajicas?

The thing is, some of the B. splendens are looking a little worse for wear, and I often see the male chasing them away. Sterbai however are tolerated and look great. The tank is kind of busy and the corys are constantly foraging and they get everywhere.

Has anyone else had any luck breeding the more calm cichlids with corys in the tank?

Thanks js302

I have no experience keeping corys with cichlids but I would highly doubt that they would have a problem breeding with them around. Once your fish form a bond and spawn it will give them something to focus on and chase off and should actually strengthen the bond between them. Also it can help to spread out aggression from the male to have something else to chase around. As long as they are not harming the corys.

If you feel that your two sajica are having troubles pairing off (I wouldn't worry too much just yet as they are still young), you would be better off to start with a small group of 5-6 sajica and let them pair off naturally. Many say that you get a better bond by doing it this way.

I hope this helps and good luck.

The cory will eat the eggs if they spawn...

So they spawned :)
