Just picked up this big boy from my Lfs a few days ago for $30! He is pretty peaceful and is always hiding even when he was at the LFS all he did was hide lol. His color can change in an instant and have only seen his "happy colors" once when i found out he loves shrimp haha. from what i can see he has no green on him whatsoever. can anyone tell me if hes coryphaenoides or temporalis. Also can anyone tell me the sex? it was sold to me as male.

I'm leaning towards Hypselecara coryphaenoides from it's overall head shape and markings. I'm guessing it's a male but venting would let you know for sure.

My temporalis had totally different markings so I'm leaning toward coryphaenoides. The interesting thing is that I've never seen an adult coryphaenoides in non-breeding colors, so I have no real reference point. lol. Temporalis usually have more burgundy/red on their bodies and they have a blotch rather than a stripe like yours.

ya i myself am leaning towards coryphaenoides just because all of the temporalis i've seen have somekind of wine and green coloration to them. which is more common temp or cory?

You don't see coryphaenoides very often. Several vendors had small ones on their lists this year, but they're not as easy to find as the temporalis. This is probably because the temporalis is a more colorful fish.

Woot im all for keeping uncommon fish :headbang2lol. I wish i had taken a pic when he was more comfortable and showing his colors more, He gets a nice milk chocolate color and beautiful red spangling on his fins with some orange irredescent on the scales. It is quite a site to see.
