Just came back from a LFS, and saw the following prices.

Fish were all babies around 3" - 4"

Tiger Shovel Nose $24.95
TSN x RTC Hybrid $19.95
Red Tail Cat $59.95

Never thought a RTC would be that much higher. I know I can go to Aquabid for cheaper on the RTC's, but does that seem right?

Side question: Fall/Winter project is a plyoowd tank 10'x4'x2.5'. Would this be ok for a RTC or should I nix the build?

Thanks

Mick

Different prices for different Areas... example in Australia they cost $350+ for an RTC... here I get them for between $15-$30

The Plywood build would be great for an RTC...I would consider alittle deeper however, Chances are pretty good that it would last for life... but if not... it would be along way down the road before you would need an upgrade... and with a beast that size... I'm sure you'd be more than happy to accomidate :D

Personally I'm trying to convince my wife that once the kids are grow up and stop using their "play room"... it would make a Great (BIG) Aquarium for my S/A Cats :grinyes:

I do understand about location and price. Just question the difference between the cats at the same location.

basslover: I'm not waiting for the kids to get out of the playroom I built for them!! :-) I would like to go deeper, but I plan to build the tank in the garage. The door to the basement is 30" wide. I will turn the tank on it's side to get the 4' wide through the door, so I'm limited to 30" depth. Unless there is a way to seal the plywood in the garage and then assemble in the play room.

The difference doesn't make sence since they are pretty much the same price at cost and avalibility is the same for each... but it could be they tend to have a high keeping cost for them since they eat more than their cousins :D

Oh neither am I... but I'll need another one later as with my stocking list the 5000 in the garage won't be enough :D

I've heard of someone who did that....can't remember who but if you search the DIY section there is a thread about it :D

I am in AUS i have been looking at getting either RTC or TSN, i have decided on TSN

there is a TSN at my lfs and it is no longer than 4" they are doing me a good deal at $300, thats $50 bucks cheaper than the price tag, i have seen them advertised but thats the first one i have ever seen in the flesh

as for RTC over here there doesnt seem to be a difference in price when it comes to size i have seen a 2' RTC for sale for $450 and its the same price for one that is only 2" i have seen them for as much as $700...

being isolated has its good and bad points i guess

yeh im also in AUS and where i come from (Perth) 4" tsn's i usually get for $250-$350 and rtc's usually $300-$400....and these prices are from keepers not lfs....lfs prices are way higher

Would love to visit Australia, but glad i don't have to pay your fish prices.

Though you guys could get black headed pythons from your backyard. I can't afford to buy one here in the US.

expensive i got my tsn for 12$ and my rtc for 25$

here the TSN is about US$ 4,00
RTC US$ 15,00
RTC x TSN = don't make any ideia, didn't find one till now

Where i live in Massachusettes,RTC's are more expensive than TSN's...for example a 3 " RTC goes for about $40.00-$50.00,the same size TSN about $25.00-$30.00,but a larger TSN,SAY 6"-7" will be more expensive than a larger RTC of the same size.TSN 6-7" cost about $80.00,a 6-7" RTC will cost around $60.00-$65.00,strange.
