cost of co2

I have a 40 gallon tank and I'm thinking of getting a co2 kit. Apparently the 3.1 oz is only 50 bucks, but after this initial cost, is the upkeep expensive? How often will i be replacing co2 tanks? I'm on a budget, but if it's only 50 bucks to set up and then maybe 20 bucks a month for a new tank, I can afford that. If not I might try diy co2 since it's a pretty small tank.

Any thoughts?

i was never into the co2 for planted tanks i always been doing low-tech. but for around 100-200 depending if you find good deals. you can get a complete set up around that price range. and as for filling up the co2 tanks. depending on tank size and how much you use. a tank last you like 3-6 months.
