I am considering making my 720Gallon a Saltwater tank. Before researching, I thought I would ask you guys first. Realize the cost is much higher for the set up etc. but what I am concerned about is the cost of water changes - for some reason I am under the impression that I am going to broke jut completing water changes on a tank this size.

Am I mistakened?

yep, i really think it'll hit your wallet.

i just went to go see a 860 gal fish tank off CL and the guy said all he does is replace his evaporated water wich is 50 gal a day and he had a top off controller to do itwith his r/o unit he said hes never done a waterchange since he had it 6+yrs and the tank was perfect he had 1300lbs of live rock to do the work i guess idk just lettin you no

yeah with sufficieant element dosing and covering evaporation.. there really isn't much of a need for WC's unless it's a reef and you have high nitrates but adaquate filtration should take care fo that

about 100 bucks a month @ 10% water change a week buying your salt in bulk (on line is usually cheaper even with shipping than at the lfs)

Like someone said, you propably wont need to change water very often. My 75 gallon reef tank has only had 2 small water changes in 8 months. All my animals are doing fine and nitrates are low and phosphates very low. 720 gallons should work much better if it has plenty of live rock and sand. Then again if you have many big eaters in there that might change things.
