How much do juvie African arowanas cost typically?

I went to a store I only get to see once in a while (near my gma's house) and it was 3.5" for $14!

I bought one... probably should buy more lol

There was an australian arowana for $30... I should've bought that too.

African Juvies are generaly cheap. But they also end up dead alot of the time as most people dont provide them with the foods they need. Please research this fish and give it a chance.

As far as the Aussie's are concerned... There are 2 types. The Jardini can be found pretty cheaply, the Leichardti is the one that runs $125-$175 for 3-4 inches.

Juvaniles usually run pretty cheap just for the fact that they are filter feeders and they usually tend to do poor and die.

Best way to get them to a less sensitive size is with good water quality and a diet of live blackworms, which it will need till about 12'' in length. Then you can take a chance to switch it over to larger foods. If your lucky, you may be able to get it to accept flake food.

Once they get larger and off blackworms their price can increase dramaticly to well over $100 to the right buyer. But buy then though, you can have well over $100 worth of blackworms invested in them.

They are nice fish though. I wish they had them redily availible in my area.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate them.

I always research fish before I buy. This particular one I researched a while back but could never find them anywhere. Then, I just found a store with a lot of them.

It was very skinny when I bought it, but after a feeding of live worms, things are looking good.

There were both Jar and Leichardti... can't remember the price of the Leichardti, but I know it wasn't more than $70 (probably cheaper).

The store is Tom's Tropical in Long Beach California:

4925 Long Beach Blvd
Long Beach, CA 90805-6735

(562) 423-2445

I hope some fellow MFKers jump on this good deal and give it a try.

I know I'll be feeding it live worms a lot at first, but I'm going to try to get it on prepared foods as soon as possible.

It's a great Aro; it's sifting the sand looking for more worms right now... very interesting to watch.
