So my male biffa decided he wouldn't live with anything including swordtails so I sold him to someone local to me.
I am now thinking about future stock of my 800 L tank, thoughts so far are
6 Herotilapia multispinosa
5 Hypsophrys nicaraguensis aiming for 1 male 4 females.
1 male Amatitlania nigrofasciata
I have 12 swordtails left and will look at adding a few more.
Can any body see anything wrong with the planned stock.
Sounds great to me,should make a really nice tank. I especially like the idea of a group of nics.
The only thing I would change is the nigrofasciata. I would leave it out completely as they have a tendency to become a pain in the arse to other fish like nics and I think they are to feisty for fish like multispinosa.
Other than that it sounds like a cracking tank.

Cheers mate, thanks for the input
No problem.
One more thing, not sure if it matters to you or not but multispinosa tend to live in the shallows around weeds and plants.Nics are typically a deeper water fish so the two may not cross each other in the wild.

Thanks, I am not after a strict biotope. I have ordered the nics, still not 100% about the multispinosa yet,

I agree about leaving out the convict, being the loner might make it become hyper dominant even in a 200gal tank, and become problematic.
But there could be room for another species, just nothing too aggressive or large.
Some of the Cribroheros are from Costa Rica, and a shoal might be a perfect addition, (alfari, altifrons, bussingi, or diquis,), (of course Cribroheros is one of my favorite genera, so I may be partial). A group of @6 would probably shoal in your size tank.
I kept a shoal of C.rostratum and it was one of my most interesting tanks.
And being eartheaters, are a distinct shape, and lifestyle than your other cichlid species.

I've also kept Cribroheros longimanus (Nicaragua) and robertson i (Mexico)and found them equally interesting

Thanks, i missed out on c rostratus by about 10 minutes yesterday, it was one of my first thoughts, always wanted to own them.

As a lone specimen, in a community cichlid tank, I've always heard they get hyper dominant, and highly aggressive. As a shoal mine were none aggressive. I kept a group of about a dozen in a heavily planted tank, with lots of current ( I believe strong flow helps to curb aggression in many cichlid species).
