hey all tanks on a downward spiral now! first a slight case of hith which im still waiting to see the results of treating with waterlifes octozine now bloddy cotton mouth has reared its ugly head again! results of adding new fish from various places without quarantine suck!!! :swear:

as all us uk'ers know you cant buy off the shelf antibiotics here which also sucks ass... i had a case of cotton mouth a year or two ago and found i can control it (stop it getting any worse) with waterlifes anti bacterial med myxazin then had to order meds through international ebay. i ordered maracyn 2 and tetracycline, maracyn 2 arrived and within two treatments it had blitzed it and all was well... 6 of the cichlids in my tank had it (out of about 15) i lost 3 of them.:nilly:

this time only my blackbelt (new addition) has it... well i assume its it. looks like white gunky fluff between his teeth same as last time.

actions this time day 1
50% water change then notice cotton mouth so green water after my change grrrr..:irked:
dose with myxazin

day 2
25% change
dose with myxazin
dose 9 250mg tetracycline
apply straight methylene blue to black belts mouth
cotton mouth un changed!

day 3 (today)
25% change
dose with myxazin
dose with my last 14 250mg tetracycline
cotton mouth almost gone from his mouth:popcorn:

as im all out of antibiotics and my new stuff is in the post and wont arrive for a few weeks any suggestions?

i plan on getting salt saturday morning and dosing the tank as much as i dare with the catfish along with a big water change and just trying the 25 percent change every other day route (and methylene blue on the area)

Lower the temperature to at least 23. Tetracycline will have no effect on this. If you post your water perameters ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, Ph and hardness I can tell you which meds will be most effective for you.

temp is already at 23 mate, turned it down straight away...

ph is 7.5
kh is120 ppm
gh is 180 ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
nitrate 20 ppm
/\
with crappy api test strips

then with a tetra kit that only has nitrite and ammonia

nitrite 0mg/l
ammonia <0.3 mg/l

also a few sites say tetracycline can work although not always effective? even here in the stickys? maybe it was the methylene blue that hit it, theres barely a sign of it on the blackbelt today!

cheers tom... i wonder if the male festae the other month had it in its wound!? ive read its in most tanks anyway in some degree?

I just looked up myxazin & it's basicly the same as API Fungus Cure with Formaldehyde. I wouldn't use it in conjunction with Tetracycline, it could become toxic. The best combination for this and effective in your water would be Kanamycin (Seachem Kanaplex) combined with either Furan 2 or API Triple sulfa.

In the mean time double the salt at one tablespoon per 2.5 gallons of water or every 9 or 10 liters. This should help.

Cheers.. will that level of salt hurt my catfish?

I didn't see the catfish sorry, use 1 tbls per 19L but that concentration isn't going to help with this you really need more but the catfish is in the way now.
