Im still pretty new to fish, especially cichlids, and as of right now I have a 120gallon that has 4 bichirs (2 ornates, delhezi, and senegal) and two Tiger oscars. Would I be pushing it if I introduced a Jaguar cichlid into the set up even if it was young? Everyones still pretty small or will it just end up being to crowded in the future? Again, still kind of a first time fish owner so go easy on me :/

Not a good ideal if You plan on keeping them all in this tank.Jags are too agressive for the Oscars.

I'd say no. when they get some size the jag needs a fairly large territory and will probably rip the oscars a new one. I'd just live it up with the O's and bichirs and get a jag when you have more room :D

alright thanks for the advice guys, got another tank to work up for then :P. Would a 140 be a decent enough size for a pair of jags? like a 6"x18x2" or perhaps alittle wider?

I guess that would come down to how big the Jags were and if they were a pre formed pair. I've heard of people breeding them in smaller tanks. I'd say save up a bit longer and go the 180. I'd do a search there are quite a few people who breed jags on here im sure they would share some advice. good luck!!

awesome! thank you! havnt had a thread this helpful in awhile lol

A 180 for a pair of Jags? I don't have experience with the fish, but I can believe the tank would need to be that big.

They will breed in a smaller tank, however consider the area a grown pair of breeding Jags would defend in the wild 8 to 10 ft in diameter 180 gals of water is not really that much. IMO a breeding pair of Jags in a nicly aquascaped 180 would be an awsome display.

Now, I'm Imagining some PFS mixed 60/40 with black sand a big tangle of drift wood against a black back ground and a double 48" T5 set-up over the center with a combo actinic/12K. Damn I want that now! lol.
