I have a black veil angel and the problems started with my juvenile clown knife picking on it. So i seperated the knife a few days ago and this morning and looked in the tank and all I could say was oh my god. The whole dorsal fin in missing on my angel! Thats a huge freaken fin to just be eaten off!! Theres long strands left. I cant figure out what could have done it though. All thats in the tank is a pleco, 2 weather loaches, and some corey cats. The only I can think that did could be the pleco but how the heck could it have mangaged to get that close to a free swimming fish let alone close enough to suck off the fin..Is it possible that it could have gotten caught between the rocks I have pilled up in the tank?? Someone please let me know if it could possibly be the pleco, its a bristle nose.

Water params? Pics? It could be aggressive "fin rot".

The ph is 6.7, the temp is 75. All the other fish are perfectly fine so it makes me wonder if is it fin rot. If it is im amazed that it took that much fin in a night, theres alot of fin missing. I just did a water change not to long ago at all. From what Iv read about fin rot, stress and being moved alot can cause it right? well the fish has been moved quiet a bit lately, being brought home, being put in one tank, moved to another cause of knife, then moved back to the original when the knife was taken out the next day. Maybe that could have cuased it...ugh. Im so unsure what to do. I cant really afford any meds for it...

Either move the angelfish to another tank to treat it, or remove the cories; cories are quite salt sensitive.

The fin will regrow, just provide plenty of clean water and some aquarium salt. No need for meds.

Well I had to apologize to the pleco for blaming him. Yesterday morning there was white stuff around the damage fins along with some red spots so I bought some fin rot meds and am treating it by itself in another tank. The fin rot had moved down to the tail slightly before meds and this morning there was no more advancement of the rot so Im thinking its going to clear up with meds I hope. She wont eat though, im thinking shes pretty stressed.
