about a month ago my O had hith and i quarentined and treated him with metro it went away i put him back into my tank and for some reason he got ick i treated with salt and raised temp in 4 days he was fine now about a week later he is starting to get hith again so now im thinking that something is wrong with his imune system and i read that garlic boosts the imune system

so im wondering if i add garlic to his diet would that get rid of the hith

or should i treat it with metro again and then add garlic to prevent hith.

garlic won't treat it on its own, but it is a good thing to have as part of a regular diet.

There is nothing magical about garlic that boosts the immune system. There is a chemical in garlic called Allicin that kills certain parasites.

Based on my research of hole in the head and head and lateral line erosion I think they are at least two different diseases. One is parasitic (I refer to as HITH) and one is not pathogenic at all and is more of a condition like dropsy (I refer to as HLLE). I have seen HITH cured by simply switching to NLS Thera+A which has more garlic than regular NLS (I have seen this in discus and angelfish, the two most common fish to get HITH).

In my experience oscars usually get HLLE, but if it already responded to metronidazole than it may be HITH in which case the Metro+ again may be the best option, but trying garlic may help too.

I have more information on all this so feel free to PM me or ask if anyone wants to know more.

I got a trick from Kniefgil, use a Vitamin Pyramid for HITH.

Every time I get it, I drop one of these in the tank. 3 days later it clears up.
