Probably the Poly section
ok so i may get to make a pond in our backyard, probably 10x8x4-5' and could i stock it with anything? we get temps around 10 F:screwy:. every winter and about 12"+++ of snow:naughty:. so could anything survive in the pond? i could do lots of water movement, and maybe a few bigger heaters. also whats the care for the fish i could do? thnx.

If its legal you could do Pumpkinseed sunfish, or Orangespots and Northern Longear (with a small heater for the winter to keep the water above the 30s) and some stonecats and Goldenshiners. Check your local laws as these are all from the Eastern part of the US and not native to Utah. You will also probably need some aeriation for the pond in the summer in Utah.

ok what about trout? and bigger catfish, if i can just do sunfish/perch and small cats then ill just go a 6x4x3' deep pond

sturgeon!? dont they get like 10' long? so are trout or big catfish even an option, cause they are what i really wanna know about

Kois and Sturgeons are pretty boring natives.. I think you should get some toruts :D Dont know what species but it would be awesome and sweet. I think they will be fine in your pond as long as its cold enough for them. A 10x8x4/5' would be a 3000 gallons already? I think you can get any catfish as long as it doesnt eat your trouts.

I would once again check your local laws on the Trout.....if you could put powerheads in and Filter the water Brookies would be awesome for that size pond......I would not go for big catfish unless you only want a few (Channels get very large) Yellow Bullhead would be the perfect size for your pond if you want a variety of tankmates Northern . If you want a native Monster tank you could stock spotted Gar (need a heater) or a Northern Pike and Bowfin and a small Flathead (needs to be smaller than your other fish think RTC in temperment). If you want pretty you could go for Northern Studfish, Sunfish or chubs and stonecats. If you want Big go Northern Largemouth, Bass and Albino CHannel cats, I fyou want native exotic go for Sacramento bass and some Sacramento pikeminnow......it all depends on what you want. But remember to check you local laws, on what your state conservation agency will ALLOW to be stocked.

ya they allow trout and channel cats, no gar, bowfin, or a bunch of others though. heres what i am now thinking:
3-6 trout(brooks, bows)
2-4 channel cats.
lost of aireation and a big kick a filter that comes down in a water fall. i could even put the filter in take on one side and the water fall on the other so its like a section of mountain river. also dont albino catfish get sunburnt when kept outside? my koi obsessed neihbour told me that a few years back, just wondering if it is true?
