Could I keep a pike with an Arowana???

I was thinking saxitilis....but I don't know....I would like suggestions.

I have an 8" cobra pike with a 15" black arowana right now. Absolutely no problems at all. The pike actually will not leave the aro alone always swimming right by his side. He was annoyed at first but now seems to tolerate his presence.

It also depends on the arowana. The chances would be slim to none if I were to try this combo with a similar sized Jardini.

Tank size should also be taken into consideration. The bigger the tank the better your chances will be for them to co-exist.

Hope I was of some help

I don't think it is a good idea.

As long as the pike is small enough to fot into the aro's mouth, it will do just that. And once it's too big it migh harass the Aro to death.

I have 5 big Redheads dying on me and I sucpect it was the C.Semifasciata. It is now with a pleco and a carp, each almost a foot long and it chases them around all day long. They spilled some 4" of water, disconnected the filter, dropped decorations etc.

So no, don't!

^^Basically the same situation I had.

Mine liked to come out of hiding (which it did 90% of the time), and punk random fish swimming by, and then go back into hiding.

A Semifasciata?

Naw...he had a johanna. lol

Each pike is unique in its temperment and attitude. Personally, I wouldn't keep Crenicichla permanently with arowana because they arowana will easily out grow the pike. Top that off with being slender and torpedo shaped, it makes them a relatively easy meal for larger fish. If you are gonna try it, do it with a Lugubris group pike, as the Saxatilis species stay smaller, even though most of them are pretty thick.

A side note, my first arowana was eaten by my pikes....so gettin the size ratio right can be tricky! lol

Right, venezuelan...haha....kinda was a long time ago...;). Thought it was odd cuz normally johanna are a little more laid back...lol. Makes more sense now...:p

Seriously think you should try a diff. type of pike. Crenicichla acutirostris....:D or Crenicichla vittata. They are pretty laid back pikes, and active...haha. Peeps keep their acuts. with geos...:)

Nope. You already tricked me once.

Aros when big have that super powerful jaw that can sever a nice size pike in two in no time flat. It happened in front of me and a friend when he tried to introduce the Pike (12" or so) with an Aro approx. 20" or so. I know I learned from that experience, and it didnt cost me a dime :grinyes:
