This may be asking for trouble but could I keep an individual or pair of Carinotetraodon borneensis in a biotopic community tank? Or will they slice the other fish to pieces. Thanks,

Not one opinion, Ive read these are less territorial and have had some luck with communities but i want people with experiences or any knowledge of dwarf puffers and the red eye group.

I've kept a similar red eye species before the C. Irrubesco, and had 3 in a heavily planted tank which worked for a little while... but at the end of the day, 1 of them became extremely territorial so i decided to sell it... then the other 2 lived okay with each other for a few months till my heater busted and i sold the remaining 2 (since i was planning on tearing down the tank)...

Now as for the Carinotetraodon borneensis, i've heard they are even more aggressive than the ones i previously kept, so not sure how well they would work in a community tank, especially mixed with other fish...

Maybe some one else who has kept them might chime in, but i think mixing any puffers together or with other fish will always be a risk...

OK, I know it would be a gamble. I am really wanting to keep this fish in a community setup with some similar sized fish, although I don't want my fish sliced in half during the night. I chose them because they don't grow larger than two inches, according to my research, and this is a perfect size for my aquarium.

DPs have been known to take fin-rides on fish 20x their size. Just say'n...

yes, previously my red eyed puffer are super aggressive towards my predator fish mates in the end had to remove the nasty puffer
