i am getting a 6-8" fire eel sometime this week and i really like senegals but would a 4-5" kill the eel or vice/versa and will be housed in a 65 gal with 1 red spotted severum and 4 silver $'s all reasonably around 3-5".

from what i understand fire eel's are kinda peacefull but dont kill the bichir maybe just put some more place to hide and if that work out sell it or give it to a friend

Should be fine id worry more about the silver dollars/severum fin nipping or hoarding the bichir or eels food :)

hey fishy im not allowed to get a bigger fire eel than 8inch so what size would a bichir be small enough not to eat my eel like 3-4" also whats a senegals growth rate per month in inches cos i might wait a while cos eels are about 1" a month ALSO what was your epic eel size compared to your awsome bichir?
also the silver $'s are vegi's and i plan on hand feeding my eel earth worms and my bichir so the severum's the only thing that might eat anything other than flakes so feeding should'nt be a problem for my soon to be bottom dwelling beutie's

i have a heavily decorated artificial tank at the moment with 3 3" tinfoil barbs 2 1" id sharks 1 cherax quad crayfish and a dyed pink parrot cichlid which my mum bought BUT i will get rid of these as more fish go in my handfed cray wont go untill i have a bottom dweller cos i have seen him catch and kill a worm and he is brutal

senegal's tend to grow about 1" a month but once they hit 6-8 inches the growth rate generally slows down. The bichir and eel should be fine, I've even seen an ornate bichir and a fire eel share the same hide (cant remember who posted the pics though). my biggest concern would be long term since the fire eel will get 30"+ and the senegal will max out at 10"-12". You might need to seperate them in a couple years or so. And definately remove the crayfish! Good luck

will the bichir at half the size try and eat my eel at night while hunting? PLEASE describe the eating habits so i can convince my dad that a tiny bichir wont kill/harm my new eel

My small 3" sens are little scaredy cats so far. They prowl around a little and eat pellets that my clown knife misses. I can't see them eating any fish let alone an eel bigger than them! They scamper away if the boesmani rainbows show too much interest in them.

your eel shouldn't be in any danger. My 3" congo tetras bully 2 of my 6" senegals. If the bichir was 6" and the eel was 3" there could a risk, but at equal size the worst a senegal could do is nip a fin on your eel.
