I was just wondering if I could use this for lighting for a reef tank.

You could for a small tank, but they throw off A LOT of heat!! And......will ring up your electric bill too!

They usually dont have the nice color like 10k and above though

Yup you need to have a minimum of 6500K but 65K is way yellow you would need to accent with some actinics to make it more desirable

6500k will also dive the algae growth up to a very hard to manage state.
