Can I use a walmart pool filter to filter my tank? My tank is a 125 gallon. Reason for asking is because I still have to pickup a filter for this tank but I have plenty of these small pool pumps just laying around. Could it be used? Would it be entirely too much filtration? If I could use it how would I rig it to the tank?

I believe the pump came off a 12' inflatable pool.

yes but it is way more than you need... you could put a "t" on the return line and use a ball valve to send some the water from the pump back into your sump... however its still gunna flow like a river.... my guess is the pump is rated for somewhere over 1500gph... you need somewhere around 500-1000gph depending on what you have it stocked with..

Lol, I was gonna do that for my 55, actually, since I'll have nothing to do tomorrow, I probably will try it, lol.

I might do the same since I also have nothing to do today.

I dont think the pump will push that much water since the intake and return lines are 1" lines and not a 2.5" like most pumps. My tank is already sitting on the back porch full of water being water tested.

should work

Would I just set it up as a normal hob filter? Send it to another tank first or what?

the filter media it uses is this.
