Forgive the noob question but....

Could I house a Black bass, Lima Cat, and a Florida gar in a 260? at this time I only have the Bass but the 260 is cycling now and I'm looking for tank mates. Not to worried about the cat and the bass...but the gar......

i've recently added bass with atractosteus gar, and while it's worked for about 4-5months, i highly credit my success to the gars being nearly twice the size of the bass, not just length wise. i would probably feel worried about trying that combination with lepisosteus gar.

regarding cleaner fish, any "cleaner fish", probably has an appetite for fish slime coatings, eg flag tails. and hence are essentially the same as plecos.

you could try this:

or if even that would be too time consuming....

good luck:)

Silence, I know the original poster personally. It was an inside joke :naughty:

that's probably what your private messangers are for:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

op, can we have an update on what you decided to do?

Hey im happy to hear you are interested in keeping gars. Honestly, I feel like Florida gars are not bad tank mates. I have had two florida gars with cichlids that i used to cycle my tank with and the floridas are intelligent enough to know what to eat and what not to eat as long as you keep them well fed.

As for the question on mixing the pleco. I would not reccomend this what so ever, as xander explained, plecos dont work with gars because they tend to suck onto the gars scales and give them open wounds which could kill your fish before you knew it was hurt. I didnt know the danger of this until i found my alligator gar with the pleco in its mouth after it tried clinging onto him. Close call! But good luck, let me know if you have any questions.

Also I have a very healthy and friendly Longnose gar I was looking to rehome if you or anyone who sees this is interested.
