my cousin gave me a bunch of pieces of petriefied wood.. and those things are heavy heavy.. would it be safe to put in the tank? the pieces are real nice, but hesitant because the pieces are real heavy.

thanks

if u have glass it might be tooheavy for the bottom of the tank. you might want to put egg crate to distribute the weight of the wood

How thick is the glass?

Just how heavy is each piece and what are the dimensions of each piece? I have fossils in most of my tanks (glass tanks included) and some of these pieces are up in the 40 pound range.

the tank is 72x22x18. the glass on the sides of the tank are 3/8 in. the bottom glass has a sticker that says it is "tempered for strength and reliability do not drill"

the petrified wood is 20 pounds and covers an area 7inx5in and bout 12inches tall.

That size piece will be safe in the tank. If the bottom side has any projections, it should be placed on gravel or sand to prevent pressure points on the glass. Also, if any part has been sawn, the piece should be boiled first to remove any oils trapped in surface grooves/cracks from the cutting saw.
