Could my Bichirs get through the eggcrate?

I am very skilled at accidentally breaking my glass tank lids. So this time, I'm going with eggcrate. If need be, I can silicone a finer mesh to the bottom of it...but don't want to, if I don't need to! I was wondering what the chances are that my two Bichirs would jump through the eggcrate?

I really like these guys, I don't want to wake up to crispy Poly's ): what do you think? Is it safe, or should I silicone mesh to the eggcrate?

I only have a low water level ATM because I have no lid. I'm raising the water level after the eggcrate is on the tank

put the mesh on i tried all eggcrate and mine went right thru it no problem. better safe than sorry

Just make sure you have some weight on the egg crate. They can push it right off if they hit it properly.

Okay. I'll have a couple small holes cut in it for my plants to go thru, that should also help hold it in place.

I recently lost a sen due to it's head getting stuck in egg crate, just be aware it can happen.
