i really don't understand what all is involved. could someone explain what i would have to do to set up a 55 or 75 gallon salt water tank.

Sure I would be more than happy to, as I am sure other's will be as well. What is it that you aren't quite understanding? The chemistry? Different Equip. you need? Or saltwater as a WHOLE A-Z?

No matter what, it's not a problem, just let me know what it is that you don't quite get, and we will work from there. (Trust me, you don't want me to really reply until you do this or I will go overboard).

i was mostly wondering about the equipment and how much it would cost to set up a good safe tank and all. I would prolly set it up in a 29 gallon so what would i need for a small ammount of coral an maybe 2 or 3 fish

Well in that case, check this out first (so I don't repeat anything)
And get a feel for what you are going to want once you learn what you need. Once you figure that out, we can start pricing things, and get you on your way to a nice saltwater tank!!

ok i read that up.

i have a question about load and if a protein skimmer would be necessary?
i will only be wanting to do a little coral and 2-3 fish(clown fish is what i would like, it would be going in my baby's area...baby due in december). would a penguin350 be a good enough filter for a 29 gallon with that small of a load. i would mainly just want an aminome (sp?).

Though I always strongly recommend the use of a protein skimmer, the answer to your question is NO, they are not always absolutely essential for a healthy tank. If you add enough live rock, keep your bio load (animals) low, have a decent biological filter and perform regular water changes and general up-keep, then no, you do not have to have a protein skimmer. It's been done sucessfully without them.

Oh and its spelled Anemone. (Ah-nem-oh-nee) ;)
