Just went into the local pet store to by some brown pencils and some root tabs and saw two cichlids in this tank with some tetras and corys.
The guy said he didn't know what they were and he'd sell me one for $2.50. He's darting around pretty fast so it was hard to get a good pic. I'm hoping he's a mellow cichlid like rams and keyhole cichlids, then I can keep him in the community tank. If he's more aggressive like a krib he might have to go in the semi-aggressive tank.

can u get a better pic its hard to tell..

I hope it's not a convict... I don't want anything aggressive. Semi-aggressive is ok like a krib or apistogramma but if it's gonna be really aggressive I'm prolly gonna just sell it. I'm gonna turn of the filter and feed them and see if I can't snap a better picture.

Doesnt look like a pink convict. looks lke its in stress coloration i can see some hints of blacks towards the tail and even a possible dot on the tail. better pictures of a calm relxaed settled in fish should give a better id.

I put him in a half gallon betta bowl with an airstone which really pissed him off. I was able to take this picture but I gotta say.. don't base it off of the color. In the tank he was darker black with black vertical stripes and a black horizontal stripe going down his body. I was going to leave him in the betta bowl but he just hated it so much and i don't have a heater that small.. so I moved him into my "semi-aggressive" tank which houses a dwarf gourami, a school of boesemani rainbows and a black ghost knife. As long as he doesn't take bites out of my ghost knife I guess he's okay for now. When I can snap a better picture I'll try to put it on here. Until then I'm assuming it's a red devil and I'm going to try to sell it. If someone tells me otherwise I'll consider keeping him because he really is an awesome fish, the way he swims around the tank at weird angles, kinda like a butit butis gudgeon. Definitely a hunter, whatever he is.

looks like a Hoplarchus psittacus true parrot cichlid's face, don't know for sure though.
