Posted this along with my pond thread in the media lounge.. shouldn't have.. well here goes..

Long time.. no updates..but here is one.. could this be spawning behaviour???

I've had these aros for a little over two years.. The largest are Akira and Gandalf, prob about 28"+ and the smallest is ninja ninja, about 25". This started some 3 months back.. the big guys trashed the smaller aro around and tattered fins etc.. the aro refused to feed and if it came up it would be trashed again.. over this period one observation.. the pelvic fins kind of broke in these fights and did not grow back.. it is short.. this could be a sign its a female.. the males have pelvic fins that are longer and go into the anal fin.. the males would circle each other.. flared up.. all fins erect.. sort of like a territory struggle.. there used to be a lot of chasing and jumping around between the males.. i was very concerned about the smaller aro so moved her into the 10X2 sump.. it couldnt contain her and so i moved her back into the main tank after a few days.. the chasing and biting continued but had mellowed down.. and slowly the smallest aro came up and the big boys did not push her around.. and this is what happened today.. akira and ninja ninja are doing that sort of dance.. around 1 min 40 sec in the video.. akira pushed ninja ninja along into the wall but the oscars stir up a fight and break it up.. its been goin on all morning.. well fingers crossed.. lets see what happens.. cheers

In my opinion, that's not spawning behavior. Spawning behavior is them swimming and leaning next to each other. It seems like the bigger Silver is trying to bully the smaller one.

hey hao.. there are two big aros.. the smaller one chases one but allows the other one to come closer and sort of do the cheek rubs and circles..

the video above is much older.. the larger aros do something similar but you can easily make out the difference between both..

well you never know could be bullying also :) thanks mate

TBH, I just think they are sizing each other. BUT if you do see them swimming side by side and swimming in circles together. Then that's a good sign of mating. As of right now, it could be spawning but most likely sizing up.

looks like reg fighting to me kaya. more so since you moved the one that was picked on out and then moved it back. i agree with how if they start to swim side by side and rub on each other then it could be more of a spawning behavior. i think they might need to be another year older or so before it stands a better chance of being spawning. they have not been together that long if i remember right. i think you had the bigger aro alone before your pond. i think i remember reading about some silver aros spawning in HI with them being about 4yrs old i want to say. the posture your aros seem to be showing is more of the territorial fighting then a "hey baby whats up?"

just my opinion though.

:) thanks scott and hao.. ya i dont expect them to spawn cos i've also read that it takes 3+ years.. and with doubts about the gender.. forget it.. if it happens it happens..

scott.. these 3 aros were moved together from when they were like 12".. the other was my first aro.. i lost her sometime ago..

idk if you guys have read this.. if you have ignore it.. cheers guys
