So I've just bought a house and I've got a whole room now that I can dedicate to my tanks, and I'm thinking about getting something around the 8x2-2.5x3ft mark.
I've got a pair of acaras that will most likely end up in there, plus a gold spotted pleco and a black ghost knife. I'm just wondering, and I know there's a big possibility that it would just destroy my other fish, but I was thinking about getting a Jar or Lei - not sure which yet. Do you think this could work? I'm also considering re-homing the acaras, because they're breeding like mad and their babies are just ending up as fish food because I have no space or want for them.
I just want some input from people with experience with Australian Aros before I go ahead and put a lot of money into this (bearing in mind it's gonna be a good six months or more before I actually get to even think about doing it, so plenty of time to work out the kinks beforehand).
So, thoughts?

You one saving grace might be space jardini are very territorial imo you need tougher cichlids than acara's they won't stand a chance , id opt for jag, dovii etc
There are mfk's who keep jars with placid tankmates such as discus ,but you'd need to strike lucky to find a placid jar most are evil in my experience
Lei's are less aggressive towards tankmates but ive read they dont except other aro's kindly , ive never kept lei's so you'd have to wait for the resident experts on that one

Thanks for the input. I was thinking the same with the acaras, they're pretty nasty when they're breeding but apart from that they're pretty placid. I might take the cichlids out of the equation completely though, cause as I've said I am thinking about re-homing them to someone with the time and space for breeders like them - trouble is a lot of people in my area are always on the lookout for free fish, and 90% of them don't seem to know what they're doing. So I'm sort of unsure what I'm going to do with them right now.

Anyway I was mostly looking for input on space and you've made me feel a little more confident. My LFS has a pretty great selection of driftwood too, so hopefully that'll help keep the plec and the BGK out of the aro's way.

Don't opt for a Jar if you plan to put in anything else. No matter how tough a fish it, a Jar will destroy it.

I've heard some people who've had success with it but it's still a small chance. Go for the Lei, or an Asian Aro if you can get your hands on some
