HEY guys wussup ,this here is my first thread .. Just need your expertise and opinions.. 2 sets of 30 gallons tanks .. 1 community (tropical) with a pacu in it about almost 8 cm terrorizing my silver dollar (though its bigger) and some other fish , and the second is a 3o gallon with a 20 cm jag with an anubias plant , is there a chance that if i put the pacu in there with the jag until i get a bigger tank , that choas won't happen and the pacu would survive the jag , and the plant could survive the pacu .. thnx :)

Welcome to MFK.

IMO it won't work. First of all, an 8" Jag doesn't belong in a 30 gallon tank....poor thing. :( And you said there's other fish in the tank as well?

Secondly, Pacu's and Silver Dollars don't belong in 30 gallon tanks either. Although small now, you need to upgrade VERY soon. GL

ok ,so what choices do i have ? and by the way .. my jag is with a plant .. and m so attached with my silver dollar that i can't afford to lose it , .. As for the pacu i bought it at 5 cm about two weeks ago and i've always want it one .. and i know and i researched about it for a quit a while ,and m not thinking about keeping too long in my possesion if i don't get a larger tank ,maybe in the summer .. :S gosh , This hobby is so ... demanding and no fair .. :( thnx anyways ;)

i am sorry that sometimes the truth hurts... yes the hobby is demanding ..and you need the right size home for the right animals.. or they will not survive.. it is best that you bring the pacu and jag and silver dollars back to the LFS for rehoming.. and work with the two tanks you have.. you can have a couple of nice set ups going with the right fish... otherwise you are facing a monster tank in the very near future..

I've often thought the same thing about this hobby not being fair. I want so many different kinds of fish that I don't have the space to keep. We must do what's right for the animals though. There's quite a few species of fish you could keep in a 30 gallon tank but unforturately a Jaguar just isn't one of them.

Fully agree! I hear pretty much everyday that people want to keep a huge fish in a tiny tank.... Sad

your pacu and jag HAVE to either be given away, sold, or you need to get a much bigger tank. your pacu especially, is one of the fastest growing fish in the aquarium hobby. your small pacu could very well be pushing 2 feet long in 1-2 years. i speak this from experience.

now, seeing if you cna upgrade your tank to a few hundred gallons, yes, a jag and pacu COULD work. however, jags tend to be extremely mean and territorial, where as pacu are giant, over-grown tetras that are mostly as peaceful as can be. pacu and plants are a definate no go. they are vegetarians naturally, and will happily and quickly eat any plants you put in the tank, much to your dismay.

in my honest opinion, sell your fish, and start over with size appropriate ones. even with 30g tanks, you can have amazing looking tanks with fish that will be happy for life in there.
