Ok so I have a 1-1.5 inch red tiger mota (parachromis motaguensis) and got him at about half an inch about 2 weeks from a fellow MFK'er. When I first got him I put him I put him in a 55 gallon with one small jack dempsey about .5 inch. Note: when I first put them in they were about the same size. Well my filter stopped working on my 55 so, I moved these two to a 10 gallon with 3 other jack dempseys one about the same size, one smaller one, and two bigger jack dempseys ( about 1.5 inches). Well it seemed like I'd find one of the jack dempseys dead at the bottom of the tank. Well when it came down to the last jack dempsey I was watching the tank and the mota was chasing him whenever he got near him. The next day that jack dempsey is dead. So now its just the mota in the 10 gallon growing out waiting to go to my 125. (Soon will have a 500 gallon can't wait). Can u believe a fish this small could be so mean hers a pic of him

When you cramp a bunch of fish in a tank, what do you expect?

No offense meant.

Do u really think it was cramped? They were very smal.my measurements must be off there were only 4 guppy sized fish and not even the size of full grown guppys. I'm not offended just confused that u think that's overcrowded. But do u guys think it would be ok to keep him in there until 4" or should I move him/her to the 55 before that. When he hits like the 7" mark I'm gonna move it to the 125 or my 500 . I'm trying to be very cautious with this little guy. He my first fish that I'm raising from this size. Any advice/input welcome.

Thanks guys

Oh crap that reminds me, I gotta check on my 5 1.5" Festae and 3 1.5" Mayans in the 10 gal, they are always sparring.

Especially known aggressive fish. They need space for that reason, there was no where for you jack dempseys to hide

Typically any other type of fish would be fine in this set up, but you have several aggressive fish in a smaller area- so there is not as much territory to claim, and the only way to claim more is to kill the others. Kinda like war.

I acquired a 3" FH, and he wouldn't even let you float a bag in his tank, and I kept him in a 30 gallon alone. He not only took out several danios- he's drawn blood on many occasions to my fingers.

My male RTM is about 6", and he's in my community cichlid tank as I call it. Not one aggressive fish in that tank. And it houses "the most aggressive cichlid" the Midas.

Yea the tank is bare and the only place to hide is under the sponge filter I just didn't think there would be that much of a problem at this size guess u live and u learn

You would think you would have done something to fix problem after first 2 were dead....live and learn right? ha!

Well I didn't know that was killing them as I mentioned. PAY ATTENTION! HA! And not everyone has a bunch of crap laying around small enough just to throw in a 10 gallon and in any other tank the fish would have been eaten in a second.
