Ill take him before u put em outside lol...plenty room in my indoor 1400 gal for him. Since there native, sure theyll survive just fine. Id say its too late in the season to do so now tho, too much of a shock. If there outside year round no prob, as they have time to cool down so to speak.

If the pond does not freeze solid and it has enough oxygen they will be fine. I would put them in next spring so they don't get a huge shock from temperature change.
The pond will need to be at least 3' but better 5'-6' deep for it not to freeze to the bottom plus an open breather hole needs to be present at all times (a bubbler would do it) unless the pond is large (then the ice near the shallow edges will periodically thaw during warm ups).
