well walked into lfs and found stunning Channa asiatica (my pics do no justice at all),i couldnt resist him ,he was in tropical tank at tropical temps so ive put him in main tank for now (until my temperate tank is set up) i am keeping close eye on him with the
aurantimaculata, at the moment they seem to be getting on just fine together, iam hoping to try and keep a few of the temperate colderwater species in a snakehead com, so interducing them into the 9ft tank so they have more room to get out of each others way if needed . he has a mark on his mouth at the moment where he got spooked and bolted upwards and hit the glass covers but he seems ok. he seems to like hanging out with my beat up dovii juvi even protecting it,(maybe saving it for lunch fattening it up), anyway thought i would share a pic , i will try and get couple more as he settles in

if he is you dident get the auranti from there about a month ago did you?
just wonding cause i know the fish if so lol.

he is my old fish mate. awsome guy, grew him from a baby to the size he was when you got him. ide only taken him in the day before you got him i think.
only reason i parted with him was i wanted an atf and they wereabout 1.5" so he would of taken them as feeders lol, and im so trying to stick with one tank this time lol.

great small world , yes mark said he had just been brought in by someone who grew him from small, i notice he had a atf at the same time, he had 2 more in there yesterday.

he really is a great fish in fantastic condition a real credit to you getting him upto size , by far my fave in the tank , he is quite the softy with my birchirs but if one of the cichlids tries anything he sharpish lets them know whos boss, hes let the new sh in without any probs at the moment just a little flaring of the gills when he comes too close . i dont suppose you know if its a male or female do you? looking at head shape i was guessing male but thats just a guess
 
no idea mate to be honest, not one for sexing channa.

yer i got one of the atf from mark in exchange for the channa but then he got a new type of atf in so i exchanged mine for that lol. the larger of the 2 he has in now is the one i grew on then took back, he is around 3x the size of the other he has in which was the same size.

mark has quite a few sh at home, i used to be the same and really really into channa amongst others but other intrests have taken over so 1 tank for me and i carnt keep everything i love (sadly).

his pair of melasoma are what i envy most.
 
yep i noticed one was 3x the size of the other one , ive noticed this myself when ive bought fish from a shop when they have had a few in the tank and week after week i watch mine growing and when you go back into the shop you noticed just how much yours has grown compared to the ones they have left which look to of hardly grown at all
