couple gar questions and id my gar please

i just got this guy for 20 bucks. ( canadian ) i havent seen many around here so i picked him up. hes in a 55 right now and i know he will outgrow it but id like to fatten him up a bit before putting him in another tank.
hes about 6 inches.
here are some pics could you ID him for me please.







also i was wondering what they eat, and how often. i have had him a couple days now but he has only eat 1 small feeder fish that i have seen.. is there anything i can do to MAKE him eat more???
i put 2 dozen feeders in but my imperial sharks have eaten some. seems like hes more active at night.. any sites i can go to to read up more about my little friend?

imperial and paroon are the same..

and i do believe it is a real gar.

Looks like

Boulengerella maculata or the Spotted Pike-Characin.

South America; Rios Amazonas, Tocantins, Orinoco. A fish eater that grows to sixteen inches in length if it doesn't get too beat up in the collection, BUT!! they do like to jump out.

Trust me, not a real gar. Go into gar forum and you will see real gars.

It is not a real gar, a look a like. I had one, but lost it when a pump seized up. A GREAT FISH. Wish I could get another. Boulengerella maculata, I have seen it under the name that stotty put up, but most commonly around here it is called a hydro gar.
